Mini worlds, handmade characters, & collaborative story-craftingNature Story Studio is a hands-on creative workshop that blends nature observation, art-making, photography, and collaborative storytelling.Participants use a mix of art materials, recycled paper, and found natural objects - such as leaves, sticks, stones, and bark - to create small characters, scenes, and story moments inspired by the natural world. Through guided prompts and collaborative play, kids turn textures, colors, outdoor details, and imaginative ideas into a short nature-inspired story. This workshop can be adapted for different ages, group sizes, seasons, and program lengths. A shorter session may focus on one character, one scene, or one story moment. A longer session or multi-day program can expand into a fuller beginning-middle-end story or handmade book-style project.Nature Story Studio supports creativity, observation, sequencing, descriptive language, collaboration, and hands-on connection with the natural world.Seasonal Nature Art & Journaling
Observation, sketching, writing, printmaking, and art inspired by the outdoorsSeasonal Nature Art & Journaling invites kids to slow down, look closely, and respond creatively to the natural world around them.Workshops may include sketching, writing, nature notes, color studies, texture rubbings, seasonal art projects, plant observations, poetry, field journaling, leaf and woodcut printmaking, and creative prompts inspired by leaves, flowers, bark, seeds, insects, weather, soil, and other outdoor discoveries. This workshop category can be adapted throughout the year, with activities shaped by the season, location, age group, and available natural materials. Each session is designed to nurture curiosity, observation, creativity, and a deeper connection with the outdoors.MUDMAN

Follow the water from storm to soilExplore how rain gardens help slow, soak, and filter stormwater while creating habitat for plants, pollinators, and wildlife. This workshop can be adapted as a hands-on lesson using mini potted rain gardens, soil-and-water demonstrations, plant observation, drawing, mapping, or larger community-scale rain garden planning.Rain Garden Lab brings together nature, art, stormwater awareness, and hands-on problem-solving. Activities can be adapted by age, season, site conditions, group size, and program length. Larger outdoor projects require additional planning and site coordination.Community Cob Build
Learn how simple natural materials can become a lasting shared place to gatherWhat's cob? And no, it has nothing to do with corn! Cob is a natural building material made from clay-rich soil, sand, straw, and water. In this longer-format workshop, participants help build a small community-scale cob project, such as a simple bench or sculptural feature. Participants learn about earthen materials while helping mix, shape, and build together. This workshop is designed to encourage teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on connection with natural materials. Because earthen projects are site-specific, details such as location, materials, project size, timing, and site permission would be planned in advance. This offering is best suited for farms, schools, parks, community spaces, nature centers, and groups interested in a longer-format collaborative project. Custom planning required.•Community / School / Group Workshops

Yes. Custom or themed menus may be available depending on the event type, lead time, and booking length. How many people can be painted per hour?
The number of guests painted per hour depends on the design menu, guest ages, and event flow. Smaller designs and a limited menu help keep the line moving.Do you paint babies or very young children?

At select public events, guests may pay individually per design. Design prices vary by size, detail, and event theme. Can face painting be adapted for kids who are nervous or sensory-sensitive?
Yes, when possible. Some children prefer a small hand or arm design instead of face painting, or may need extra time, a simpler design, or the option to watch first. Participation is always voluntary.

ABOUT
Hi, I'm Annie.
I created Becoming Wild Studio as a place where art, nature, creativity, and imagination meet. Whether through face painting, a nature workshop, or another creative experience, my goal is to create moments of wonder, connection, and transformation for all ages.My background spans philosophy, teaching, creative arts, project management, civil land development and infrastructure design, and a lifelong curiosity about the natural world. Across all of it, I've always been drawn to the same things: observing closely, asking questions, making with my hands, and helping people see the world in a new way. When I'm not painting faces or dreaming up workshop ideas, you'll often find me in the woods with my family, sketching ideas, gardening, thinking about thinking, or learning & practicing natural building methods.Based in Southwest Michigan, Becoming Wild Studio is inspired by local landscapes, seasonal rhythms, and the belief that curiosity and imagination are worth nurturing at every age.
About the Instructor
Becoming Wild Studio workshops are led by Annie, an artist, educator, and creative program developer based in Southwest Michigan.Annie’s background spans philosophy, education, youth programming, project management, nonprofit work, creative arts, and civil land development and infrastructure design. She is also a mom of three and has worked with students in classrooms, residential education, mentoring programs, and hands-on workshops for elementary through high school ages. Her experience includes teaching assistance, tutoring, mentoring, substitute teaching, serving as an Instructor of Residence Life at Interlochen Arts Academy, developing and facilitating programs for a nonprofit educational organization, and bringing creative, educational, and hands-on projects from early ideas into organized, meaningful experiences.Becoming Wild Studio's nature workshops grow out of that combined background - bringing together creativity, structure, observation, technical problem-solving, and hands-on exploration in programs designed to feel thoughtful, grounded, and alive.
